You don't choose to become a priest; it is a decision made by God.
Aside from sleeping, work consumes most of our lives. It should ideally be enjoyable, but that's not the reality for everyone. The mission of the "Choices" project is to tell the stories of a handful individuals who either chose their professions or had them chosen for them. Have any of them ever experienced regret?
Some people don't have the luxury of choosing their profession. However, we all hope that most people do possess that "luxury." Nonetheless, it's a challenging decision that often needs to be made early in life, with limited insight. Have you ever experienced regret?
My father aspired to be an actor. His involvement in various roles at The National Theatre in Oslo during his childhood inspired him to pursue that path. He was a highly creative person, showcasing his talents through acting, music (as a pianist), and later through storytelling (writing). However, his parents didn't view it as a viable life path, so they “convinced” him to become a baker instead. He spent his entire career in the chocolate industry and retired as a Vice President of product innovation at Nidar (Orkla). Even after 30 years, you can still find products in stores that were designed by him and his team.
As his son, I gradually realized that he wasn't truly happy with his chosen profession over the span of 40 years.
This project is dedicated to my father,
Bjørn Sverre Tunsli (1929-2001).
